Women… Can be the most inconsiderate of puzzles sometimes.
See, I know this girl… With a smile like a lighthouse A laugh like good food And a heart fit to be a gallery.
She feels imperfect on impulse. Filled to the brim with life But her confidence looks too much Like a fresh bloody murder And I’m left trying to clean the mess That she’s made of her. Her eyes bleed spring Her limbs scream summer But her lips tremble like the dead of winter And I don’t have enough sunshine Left in between these arms To share with her.
So she only shares her secrets in her sheets. Hiding while their shadows creep In the hallways and make The floorboards creak… While she tries to swallow A spider web of cracked mirrors And all the second guesses That call her throat a home. Until the sun catches up to her. Chases her from her haven So she has to walk with the sun. Magnify her mistakes Flashlight her flaws
And they all join in.
These days… I can never find which way to turn. Her smiles are scarce. The lighthouse she’s Jenga-d On the saved up stacks of her sanity Refuses to guide me into her.
To them, she tries too hard Wears too little, and loves too much. Just what they make her up to be.
To me…she’s a butterfly. Wishing she never cracked open her cocoon. Cursing its creation Since they’ll never let her be her to begin with.
So I’m trying to crack the code to her chest… Trying to convince her To let me be her lighthouse for once.
I’ve officially started working on my second poetry EP. The Open Letters EP. There’s going to be some old poems, some I’ve been performing lately, and some that haven’t even been written yet. So there’ll be a good amount of diversity. And you’ll notice how much my writing changes.
Christmas break is coming up. Until then I’ll be studying for midterms and writing new poems. Then I’ll be recording with my friend AJ Maas aka Infinite Sustain who produced and did all the behind the scenes processing of the first EP. We’ll be doing a few tracks together too.
And if you haven’t heard my first, The Soft Spoken EP, then head over to marcuslomboy.bandcamp.com and you can listen to it and download it for free. That’s right, absolutely FREE!
So it’s almost break time. Which always means that it’s time to do some reading or run around in the snow and maybe make some snow forts for old time’s sake. So here’s a list of books I’ve recently read, recently bought, and ones I still need to get. Just in case y’all need an idea of what to read. It also makes a good Christmas list.
